Lost in music
music ·There are things we all have to drag ourselves through at times: paperwork, ironing, work at times... This short post is a reminder that this doesn't always have to be the case!
For me, it has been all about playing my flute again. Life is busy, and it's not always easy to take much time out to practice and play it. However, I was lucky enough to be asked recently to play another flute solo with my local orchestra, the Misbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO). I did one a while ago (Carl Reinecke's Flute Concerto) which was great fun; this time I'm playing Godard's Suite de Trois Morceaux. Although the concert isn't until April 27th April '13, the learning curve is keeping me motivated to practice every evening. Through this, I am re-discovering how much I enjoy playing; time passes so fast and enjoyably when practising.
I have also been lucky enough to have other musical outlets. Again, the MSO concert approaching on 20th October contains some lovely and challenging music, played with a good set of people. And this evening, as I write, I am remembering the wonderful evening I have just returned from, invited by a friend to come along and play with a group at a local music camp. Then there has been the creativity and vigour driving other local events such as the Speen Festival (one for your diaries next year, perhaps!).
All of these musical outlets provide an opportunity to immerse yourself in something that is a complete release, a creative outlet. For me it might be music, for others (eg Mrs H) it could be something like yoga; exactly what it is, I suspect, is far less important than the fact that it is there.
As it happens, I also love recording music. So I have, occasionally, set my phone to record pieces during practice onto SoundCloud. I'm doing this mainly to measure my progress towards next year's concert. Here's a recording of a piece by Rachmaninov I particularly like to play on the flute, just in case you have an excess of time on your hands!
Do you like playing/recording music? Would you like some flute added to something? If so, let me know!!
