Janathon day 3: hot yoga and circuits
fitness ·Today I made it, for the first time, to a "hot yoga" class at Absolute Hot Yoga in Gerrards Cross. Mrs H is an ardent fan of yoga in general, and I have watched her get fitter, stronger and happier as she has continued with her practice. Today, with the kids at my parents' for a short break, we realised we could both go to a yoga class together - almost unheard of!
I have only done 3 yoga classes before in my life, a year or two ago: 2 hot ones, 1 normal. So although I had a vague idea what to expect, it was all rather alien to me. The main features I can point out are:
- It was extremely hot! I had shorts and a thin shirt on, and was positively dribbling with sweat
- The classes are 90 minutes, so pacing yourself to some degree is sensible
- It is hard work, so be prepared for some challenging stretches, lifts and moves that, in other contexts, might be called "mountain climber", "plank" and so on
- The place itself was clean, the staff friendly and the instructor did a great job of communicating what we were supposed to be doing. I would go back ... indeed, I will be going back as I took advantage of their "3 for 2" offer for new attendees.
Later on, I was booked into the local crossfit-type exercise class that I attend. We meet at Hervines Park in Amersham, and the group is very sociable as well as hard work. (So sociable, in fact, that we ended up in the pub afterwards for dinner with some of them ... nice!) Today's workout took the form of circuits including various bar bell moves, kettle bells, planks and so on. I tried not to let the fact that my hams and glutes are still aching from yesterday's run interfere too much..!
Now there is just today's "spractice" commitment to complete (Spring music practice, for those who haven't seen it in previous posts), then bed before setting off for PT in 6 hours 20 minutes.
So my total contribution to Janathon was 2.5 hours of yoga and circuits. Tomorrow, hopefully, I'll be back on the running (after a morning PT session ... yikes)
