Juneathon day 2: DOMS, meet DOMS
family, fitness, technology ·There is no way that I'm going to be able to run every day during Juneathon, even though I would have loved to. If nothing else, the next few days will be tricky, as unfortunately Mrs H is away for the rest of the week, and child-related activity and work aren't going to give me much leeway during this time. However, I usually find that constraints can be a trigger for creativity, so will be using this approach to keep active.
Today has featured a certain amount of helping her prepare for her trip, which is actually to an ashram in North Wales (she's training to be a yoga teacher). Knowing what was coming, she insisted that I book in a pairs PT session with my friend Holger before she went: given Juneathon, it's lucky she did! We had a brilliant session with Darrell, as usual, during which we laid the foundations for some new DOMS to take the place of that set up during last Friday's pretty heavy weights session. The squats we did then, for instance, have left both of us walking around for the last few days a bit like John Wayne..!
Today's session started off featuring some of the ideas that Darrell uses for his BTB exercise class in Hazlemere, using barbells for dynamic interval training. After a few sets of that, we worked our way round various intervals working abs, biceps, triceps etc, finishing off with some core work ... and me absolutely dripping with sweat. I'm pretty certain I'll be feeling the after-effects of the weighted lunges tomorrow in the form of a new round of DOMS. So, all told, a good session!
Over the next month or so, I hope to tell you all about my FitBit, which I've been really enjoying. Just as a taster, here's a picture of the kinds of information it tracks for me...
Anyway, it's late, and I need some sleep, so - catch you all around, and happy Juneathon-ing!
