Juneathon day 10: running, yoga ... and shoes
fitness ·With some good weather forecast and uncertainty about what would be going on later, taking my running kit into work felt like a no-brainer. And so it was that I headed out for a 3.7 mile run around the aquadrome at Rickmansworth in the sun. There isn't a huge amount to say about it, apart from the fact that the canal and surrounding area was humming with activity and it was a lot of fun!
Now that Mrs H is back from her trip, her YogaByEllie classes have resumed. This is excellent news, and meant that after getting back from work I was able to fit in a quick hour's yoga with her. Her ashram experience was obviously worthwhile as she returned with some interesting new angles and approaches; it was an enjoyably strong practice, and probably just what I needed after my earlier run!
The challenge for Wednesday is going to be to get my hands on some running shoes for the Wolf Run which I'm doing on Saturday. I've had helpful pointers from Twitter singing the praises of Inov8 shoes, and one of my two favourite pairs of running shoes ever are their f-lite 195s. So their mud-plugging options are high on my list. The other option I'm considering - and which is probably the front-runner right now - are some Vibram Spyridons. I simply love my current Vibrams, but they're not blessed with any kind of decent tread to speak about. I used mine on the Isle of Wight over the New Year and really loved running in the mud, but something with a bit more traction is very appealing. In terms of their capability, if they're good for this kind of thing, I'm sure they'd be sufficient for me! And as I've discovered that off-road is my preferred kind of running, I'm also sure they'll get lots of use in the future. So the only problem is finding somewhere that can sell me some before Saturday..!
