Diary format

I haven’t really decided where this blog stands on the well-thought-out-article vs daily-journal-diary spectrum. Having covered a particular topic each day until now, I think today I’ll see how it feels taking the other side of the balance.

So - Thursday. Lots happens on a Thursday. Traditionally there are three main blocks: work during the day, some family Uber-dadding for a local running club, and finally orchestra rehearsal in the evening.

Work felt pretty positive today: I’m getting to grips with JavaScript, and felt like I managed to actually write a reasonable amount of code to do useful things. I also had an idea for an improvement that could be made yesterday, which I got into production today. Finally, I made a formal start at using Anki to learn specific JavaScript language features I keep forgetting.

After a not-great journey home not helped by leaving a bit late too, I was pretty pleased to only get my daughter and her friend to running club five minutes late!

Finally, orchestra was actually pretty fun. The Misbourne Symphony Orchestra is a local orchestra in the Chilterns, and we have a concert coming up in just a few weeks now, with a pretty interesting and challenging programme. My favourite piece is the Firebird Suite by Stravinsky, which I played many years ago when I used to play in the National Youth Orchestra. That was such a great opportunity. I got to know it backwards - but, years later, I’m not so great at forwards!

Our concert is on 26th November, tickets available online; why not come along if you’re local, I’d love to meet you!
